What a fantastic (and busy) week we had during half term. We ran activities over 6 days and saw 145 young carers in that time. We kicked off the week with a trip to Snakes and Ladders in Brentford; a fantastic soft play indoor playground which our under 12s loved.
The next three days were all about the young carers expressing their creative side starting with a fun and interactive visit to the Stanley Picker Gallery! We’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the gallery and the actors from House of Fairy Tales that made our visit such an unforgettable experience.
Chrissy and Kat ran two very successful art workshops where young carers were able to express themselves through a range of different arty activities. Thanks to James at the Malden Centre for providing us with a room after our space at the MEFAS Centre was commandeered by an unwelcome guest (our squirrel friend eventually made his way back outside, no harm done)!
Pancake Day on Tuesday meant a bouncy castle at Barnfield Youth Centre and plenty of pancakes with a variety of sweet and savoury toppings (YUM!) We always love meeting the families of young carers so these family days are due to become a regular occurrence for us. Keep an eye out for the next one! Thank you to the Youth Service and Achieving for Children for letting us use Barnfield; it is a building we love and use so often and we would be lost without it!
On Friday, we had another marvellous day trip to Butlins in Bognor Regis, all thanks to Surbiton Farmers’ Market. We all had a whale of a time, especially the staff!
Finally, after a non-stop week of activities, time for a relaxing swim (NOT!). Our Splash Party was brilliant fun and great exercise. Well done to all those who managed to complete the Wobstacle Course (you weren’t so successful at getting me to have a go though!) Thanks to the Malden Centre for generously providing us with this party; the young carers loved every second and didn’t want it to end!
All in all, a fantastic half term was had by all. Now to start planning for Easter!
